Surgical outcomes of resected cystic neoplasms of pancreas: Experience from a tertiary care centre in India

Objective: Cystic neoplasms of the pancreas form a rare heterogeneous group pancreatic tumors with variable clinical and diagnostic characteristics. Its incidence has increased in recent years due to improvements cross-sectional imaging methods awareness amongst surgeons. Material Methods: This study aimed demographic, clinical, imaging, histopathologic characteristics, malignancy outcome surgical resection cystic neoplasms. Retrospective analysis 91 patients who underwent for neoplasm between 2006 2017 at tertiary care institute was done. Results: There female preponderance mean age 47.2 years. Abdominal pain (46.1%) jaundice (23.1%) were most common symptoms. Computed tomography endoultrasound (EUS) commonly used demonstrated good correlation. Pancreaticoduodenectomy (37.1%) performed procedure followed by distal pancreaticosplenectomy (31.8%). Of lesions, 9.8% found malignant. Solid pseudopapillary epithelial (SPEN) (37.3%) serous (21.9%), intraductal papillary mucinous (IPMN) (15.3%) (14.3%). Preoperative radiological correlation be 75-100% implying importance pancreas. Morbidity mortality 28.5% 2.1%, respectively. Conclusion: Pancreatic mostly benign presented younger prevalence SPEN higher than IPMN our subcontinent. These can reliably diagnosed on preoperative is associated favourable acceptable morbidity.
